Patsies, Pawns, Patrons, and Police: Understanding Sociopathic Relationship Roles

At least one time in our lives each of us will make the mistake of trusting someone who doesn’t deserve it.  Especially when we consider the statistics that one out of every twenty-five people in the world are individuals with APD (sociopaths). In the best-case scenario, this betrayal only inconvenienced us, but more often we will have been conned, cheated, or abused. How do we recognize and avoid relationships with sociopaths?

To protect ourselves, it is important to understand sociopaths’ motivation for developing relationships. Their reasons are not the same as ours! Lacking a conscience, they are unable to form emotional attachments and are disinterested in developing a bond with others.  Instead, they are thrill seekers, and use relationships to achieve this goal.

In pursuit of their next big emotional charge, sociopaths tend to cast others into three main roles: “pawns, patrons, or police.”

“Pawns” are individuals with little or no social or political power who can be manipulated to advance the sociopath’s agenda. Just as in a chess game, they are easily used and quickly discarded. For example, serial rapists are often married men; their family conveniently provides them the screen of “normalcy,” thus helping them to avoid suspicion.

“Patrons,” on the other hand, have considerable social or political power. They usually occupy high places at the office or in the community. Through the use of charm, they are wooed and won over. The sociopath uses them either to protect himself from accusations or to betray them as he navigates himself toward his end game.

Finally, there are the “police.” These are individuals who could get in the way of the sociopath’s agenda and must be neutralized.

To make this picture clearer, let’s use a current ABC’s show, Revenge, to understand these roles. (This program seems to celebrate the Antisocial Personality Disorder!) There are three main sociopathic characters: Emily Thorne, Victoria Grayson, and her husband, Conrad Grayson. For the sake of this article, let’s focus on Emily and her relationships.

Emily’s “pawns” are (the fake) Amanda Clarke and occasionally Jack Porter. Neither have useful social connections or power in this rich Hampton community, but both are used as alibis or fall guys as Emily takes her revenge.

The “patrons” are Ashley Davenport, Nolan Ross, and Daniel Grayson. Emily initially used her friendship with Ashley to gain access to the Grayson family and then regularly takes advantage of Nolan’s wealth, computer acumen, and social access to reap havoc on the Graysons and their friends. And of course, Daniel Grayson, the son of Conrad and Victoria, is used to gain even greater access to the Graysons’ secrets and as a weapon to hurt the Grayson family.

The “police” vary from episode to episode. Sometimes it is the legal authorities, other times it is outside sources that threaten to upset Emily’s plans of revenge.

There is one more role in the sociopath’s world, the “patsy.” This is another name for victim. This person may have previously been a pawn or a patron who now is of no further benefit to the sociopath, or this individual could be the target. Unfortunately, one becomes a patsy when the game is finished. At this point the sociopath has played out his moves and has moved on.  Meanwhile, this person has been deceived, betrayed, cheated, blamed, used, ridiculed, abused, or in the worst-case scenario, killed.

How does one avoid becoming a sociopath’s patsy? The next article will identify useful strategies to protect oneself from a sociopath.

  1. I have obtained Criminal Record Checks and an RCMP Security Clearance.
I have an Immobility disability and Police and Provincial Constables drive to Otter Point to Raid and Terrorize me.
I collapsed November 2015 at Rockliffe,I had only been there three times in 14 years since 27 {Police & By-Law)encounters there in 2001 & 2002 without my doing anything, I am crippled.
November 2016, I am threatened with Police and Jail,I was collapsing, it was not about her. My distress which can be gasping, leaning on counters, walls, was interpreted as hostility against a female.
February 24 2017, there is kicking at my door. Two Police trucks in the driveway and two God Knows Whats in Combat Coveralls. Fake tickets that snow was not shoveled quickly or properly enough at my 50 km distant Apartment building.
Threatened with Police Intervention and then Police or what here, one old fashioned blue Police Uniform, City of Victoria By-Law, two others unmarked coveralls. My Body collapsed in Tonic Immobility. As my Sociopath ex-wife said, "My lawyer, (Tyler Lucchies) and I are going to put so much pressure on you that your neck and your back will go." She advised neighbors, store owners, call Police. To cause me to collapse. This has gone on for 19 Years and was worked on for years earlier without my knowing or collapsing. I now know that I had Tonic Immobility Episodes previous to 1993, unknowingly virtually paralyzed. In 1993 my ex-wife gone since 1990 and paid far too much, flew at me scratching at my eyes and saying she had told everyone I had huge bags of Cocaine. I collapsed into years of Virtual Paralysis and began later to realize the nature of my disability and how I was paralyzed then and in the past.
June 2017, a dog has gotten trapped down in a ditch, creek bed, I cut him loose in the Morning. He had barked during the night, I thought he was on a nearby property as he could NOT BE SEEN TIL I WENT RIGHT UP TO AND LOOKED INTO THE DITCH.
ON the Monday, the 3rd, a Police Type Vehicle is honking, which is OK, but not he Police Raid scene. A female Constable alleges I had a dog tied up on a "SHORT LEAD" to a truck up my driveway towards the road. Animal Cruelty she said. I showed the the cut off rope in the Creek, she did not look at the truck, but repeated the false allegation. I said oh my God, you are Police on the property without a warrant. She tried to claim a right to investigate, not really Police. I was in a state of Virtual Paralysis or Tonic Immobility off and on already, after the last episode of False Raiding I have been in the grip of Tonic Immobility.Who falsified the complaint.I e-mailed every possible source of the information, who called it in, where and who made the `Tied up on a short lead to the truck` enhancement. They think they can get me with a false charge because after beating dozens of false charges and By-Law tickets, I was surrounded in British Columbia Supreme Court and I collapsed and can`t go back. They think they can finally
punish me, the 911 caller, the dispatch or Office or Constable, enhance all penalties for the man who has been crippled and had no money for decades. $750. for snow shoveling fakery, am I now on a list again; Animal Cruelty.
What makes this so hard to deal with is that repeat attacks occur, in many Tonic Immobility victims, reprises of `Freeze` reoccur at the place or in circumstances where previous Tonic Immobility Episodes happened, that would be at my business and my home, the only places I could be found to attack.
RESEARCHERS SAY THAT A TONIC IMMOBILITY EPISODE IS IMPOSSIBLE TO CONSCIOUSLY CONTROL. Violent shaking can occur.Sometimes, the squeeze is so tight you can't breathe and you really think you will die from lack of air.
WORSE IS OVERCOMING THE LOCKUP OF THE BODY..FREEZE IN A FLASH, YEAH, FREEZE.

Narcissism: Understanding the Effects of Narcissistic Parenting

Since Freud, researchers have studied various environmental effects on maturing personalities, and it has been well documented that parenting styles are profoundly involved in the shaping of children’s developing psyches. It is hard enough working with a narcissistic boss or living with a narcissistic spouse, but being raised by narcissistic parents has several serious emotional consequences. What are some of these effects? Dr. Paul Meier in his book, You Might Be a Narcissist If . . . How to Identify Narcissism in Ourselves and Others and what We Can Do About It , identifies four consequences of narcissistic parenting. They are: 1) the  development of a false self; 2) the desire to behave with perfectionism; 3) chronic habits of passivity; and 4) increased vulnerability to addictive behaviors. The Development of a False Self Since narcissistic parents unconsciously need others to help soothe their fragile sense of self, they naturally turn to any available relationships

Babiak and Hare reveal the common ploys of psychopaths, especially in the corporate world. The authors provide detailed suggestions about how to screen for psychopaths in the interview process as well as how to protect the work environment from those whose main goals are to manipulate and exploit the workplace.
